Beaver Middle School Information

Message from the Principal: Jeff Beltz

Beaver Area Middle School (BAMS) houses approximately 320 students in seventh and eighth grades.  The Middle School is nestled neatly within the high school campus, which permits our students to take some High School level courses, including Algebra II, Spanish, Latin, Chinese (virtually), and French, and to share state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Ed Schaughency Theatre.

Our community embraces the Middle School as a nurturing environment that bridges the gap from elementary school to high school.  A tremendous amount of growth takes place both intellectually and physically during these two years, and the teachers and staff do an outstanding job at teaching to the whole child while striving for lofty academic goals. The Middle School is constructed by academic departments. Thus, each department will have every student in our building for two years. This allows for colleagues to have dialogue about individual students and find ways to meet their needs socially and academically.  Content specific teachers have the opportunity to recall seventh grade students and monitor their maturity into eighth grade. This department system also allows for flexibility of scheduling classes and using staff more efficiently.  Our Middle School system now offers many  "extras," such as newly created electives courses.

Our Middle School centers around eight cultural qualities designated as indicators of excellence in middle schools by the National Middle School Association (NMSA):
  • Educators who value working with this age group and are prepared to do so
  • Courageous, collaborative leadership.
  • A shared vision illustrated in the strategic plan that guides decisions.
  • An inviting, supportive, and safe environment.
  • High expectations for every member of the learning community.
  • Students and teachers engaged in active learning.
  • An adult advocate for every student.
  • School-initiated family and community partnerships.
